Research Grants

Research Grants will usually be made to individuals to help to cover particular research expenses, for example, travel to an archive or the acquisition of copied materials.

Applicants should usually be registered for a research degree or have an established publication record. Applications from post-graduate, post-doctorate or independent scholars will be prioritised over those from tenured academics. Normally these grants will not exceed £500 each.  Requests for support with travel costs should itemise the best possible, second-class, advanced-fare rate, and should include Railcard fares wherever possible.

TO APPLY: download and complete the application form.  The completed application form must be received by 31 OCTOBER.

Successful applicants will be expected to deliver a presentation/talk on their research at a Society event and to acknowledge any award granted in any subsequent thesis or publication. Applicants are strongly encouraged to become a member of HSLC and to consider publication in the Society’s journal, Transactions.
